Miss Charity by Rentse Foundation starts on a high note

Contestants of the first-ever Miss Charity pageant are expected to do their bit for community development. The beauty pageant organiser, also founder and director of Rentse Foundation, Rentse Maganu-Ugokwe, said this when she told Vibe that the 12 contestants who will battle it out for the Queen title have been selected. Maganu-Ugokwe explained that the ladies would have to prove that they have good hearts and passion for serving the needy in their communities. She further said that they had selected the contestants based on their passion for helping others and giving, and not only beauty and brains. “We went through their profiles to understand them better. This is a pageant with a difference and we want young women who are keen to get down and help in the community,” she said. The director of Rentse Foundation said that one of the projects is the refurbishment of a primary School in Kotolaname. She pointed out that they had identified the needs of the school together with other interested stakeholders. Maganu-Ugokwe said it was important to groom young people to take social responsibility and charity work seriously, emphasising that helping others should be second nature. “We want these young people to have the skills and connections to be on the ground, doing charity work. We are already starting them with small projects and will spread across the country,” she said. She further expressed hope that they would soon work with the First Lady. She noted that having a female voice in the State House would serve the country positively. “Hopefully she will join us with our charity engagements. I have had the opportunity to meet her and she seemed interested in what we are doing.”  The Miss Charity crowning is slated for October at GICC.
