Township Rollers are once more talk of the town as for weeks now, some club executives have been waxing lyrically and upbeat ahead of the new season with new club president, investor and head coach set to be launched this week.

This publication has it on good authority that former senior national team head coach, Mogomotsi Mpote is set to be announced as a new gaffer at the club by the time you read this article.

Following a short but successful stint with the then struggling Selibe-Phikwe outfit, Nico United Sporting Club who were battling relegation, the veteran tactician is set to return to his old home.

“The deal has been concluded, he could have started pre-season but as you may be aware, the club is set to make big announcements and he should be part of ‘the big reveal’. The good part for the club is that, there will not be many changes to the technical team, he requested that. So let’s wait and see if he will, as he has done before, deliver success for the club. He knows the demands and the pressure that comes with being a Township Rollers coach, so Mapalastina fans should fasten their seat-belts, it’s going to be an exciting season,” an inside source at the club revealed.

With a rather glittering track record of success, having won the local league championship with Township Rollers in the 2015/2016 season and cup competitions with Orapa United, Mpote’s arrival at Township Rollers is expected to be a ‘key master stroke’ by the club.

Last season, Innocent Morapedi led the club to a 2nd position finish ahead of Gaborone United and a few points adrift of champions, Jwaneng Galaxy during a tumultuous transition season after the club parted ways with former investor Jagdish Shah. It is expected that the two tacticians, who are also close friends, will smoothly work together and deliver the league title at the club in the upcoming football campaign.

His wealth of experience in the game is expected to come in handy to revive the fortunes of Mapalastina and make The Happy People happy again.

Mpote previously told this publication that he was not going to extend his stay at Nico United but never ruled out a return to football management, stating that he was waiting for ‘the right project’.

Mpote is one of the first crop of 20 coaches who attained CAF A license coaching certificate in the country.

The former Zebras coach led Botswana to the final of the regional cup competition, COSAFA Cup championships back in 2019 as the interim head coach.

Township Rollers has been able to retain the services of most of their star players and it is expected that the club, with a new financier will be busy in the market to attract quality that will aid their ascendancy back to the very apex of the local football pyramid.
