Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, who emerged as the new Secretary General of Botswana National Front (BNF) during the central committee elections held in Gaborone this past Tuesday is reported to be on his way out of the Extension Gunners executive Committee where he is the club's Vice Chairman.
Motshwegwa was elected alongside former Gaborone United Chairman, Rapula Okaile last year, with the duo set to lead transformation of the club and bring back the glory days at the struggling Peleng giants.
Sources close to the matter have revealed that, the Extension Gunners Exco- have held meetings in his absentia as he rarely physically attend games and his position been a subject of discussion, more especially in relation to his political affiliation.
Motshegwa, who has also been the Secretary General of Botswana Land Boards & Local Authorities & Health Workers Union (BLLAHWU) has reportedly had qualms with certain decisions that were taken by the Gunners executives which were against what he advocates for, workers’ rights.
One of the burning issues in the Gunners committee is that of former coach, Wame Mokoke, whose two year contract was terminated in less than two months. BG Sport has it on good authority that Extension Gunners management were not all in agreement, in fact, some were clueless about Mokoke’s contract which was put forth to fight off the interests of Jwaneng Galaxy, and Motshegwa is at the heart of it all.
This publication further gathered that Motshegwa is set to announce his resignation at the club’s annual general assembly, which is billed for August 13th, however his latest political exploits could see him tender a resignation earlier.
“We have had discussions about his future roles in the club and we are waiting an official feedback at the AGM, recently in one of our various online platforms, he has mentioned his intentions to step down. He has notified us of his interest to leave before their BNF central committee elections. I believe he was waiting to see whether he’ll be successful, so we are now waiting for an official communication,” inside source at Gunners told.
“We had discussions about his position in relation to his political interest, and we felt that it is something that could jeopardize the status of the club more especially when it comes to doing business; we were to write to him and engage on the best way possible,” the source added. There has been reports of administrative crisis at the club and some members of the executive have since resigned just a few months into their roles.
The former Secretary General Edwin Mabapa, Oarabile ‘Walker-Dibe’ Kgosiesele are some of those that have left the club, but surprisingly, no official communication has been made.
The club is also reportedly in negotiations with one member of their accounts office, pleading with him to re-occupy his position after he had resigned, as they are expected to present their financials and audit report at the AGM.
