Multitudes of Mochudi Centre Chiefs fans once again left their River Plate home ground bitterly disappointed, following a 2-1 thrashing by Santos last Sunday.

This followed another surprise set-back at the hands of Matebele FC, a week earlier. Despite an impressive start to the game, which saw newly signed winger, Kesekile Chivese give Magosi a lead, Santos came back into the tie and emerged 2-1 winners to add to the Kgatleng giant’s woes.

Magosi fans could not hide their frustration at full time as they hurled insults and called for the sacking of the newly appointed gaffer, Daniel Chico Nare.

There has been high expectation at the club, following their reported P68 million sponsorship deal from DC TOURS.

The club’s exco- have, made their intentions clear to gain promotion and acquired the services of Nare in December 2022, after he was sacked by Botswana Football League (BFL) side, Morupule Wanderers.

He has taken charge of six (6) games, winning two (2), drawing two (2) and losing two (2), a consistent average showing that has been deemed unacceptable by the club’s legion of die-hards.

Monday reports further indicated that, Nare was contemplating to tender a resignation as his safety remains under threat following the weekend’s ugly scenes.

“He met with Chiefs management on Monday, not sure about the purpose for the meeting, the weekend events however were bad, and he might tender a resignation in the next two days,” a source close to Chiefs camp told Sun Sport.

The club also released a statement to condemn the weekend events and shared that investigations over the matter have begun.

“The management of Mochudi Centre Chiefs is concerned and disturbed by an incident which happened on the 12/02/2023 after a game we hosted against Union Flamengo Santos. Our coach Daniel Chicco Nare was

threatened with violence and insulted by some of our supporters. Investigations on the matter are continuing and the team will take serious actions against the perpetrators of such an incident,” part of the club’s statement read.

The communique further indicated that the club is against all forms of violence in the club which could taint the brand and its integrity.

“The management would like to reassure all its supporters that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the quest to the elite league promotion is still on and that they should stay calm and be united in this quest,” the statement concluded.

Chiefs are currently occupying 4th spot on the Debswana First Division South (DFDS) league standings, six (6) points behind leaders, Crack-It City Polar after match day 12, with ten games remaining to conclude the season. There is however, still optimisim that the Kgatleng giants could end up as the champions of the division.

Last year, under the guidance of Thatayamodimo Tebele, the club fell short of gaining promotion as Holy Ghost emerged champions of the league. Chiefs then played a promotional play-off encounter and were emphatically dispatched 5-0 by Eleven Angels.

Efforts to get hold of Nare proved futile as his mobile phone rang unanswered before going for print.
