The Director General of the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has challenged the African continent to improve food systems as weapon for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Adressing delegates to the 2nd African Conference on Health Risk Reduction in Marrakesh, Morocco this week, Dr Ghebreyesus he said Health Harm Reduction is the most effective option for attaining the UN-backed sustainable development goals.

"One of the important option is to protect the health of humans, animals and ecosystems. At the same time we must put in place climate resilient services such as water and sanitation services for more than two billion people without access," he noted during the official launch of the three day II African Conference on Health Risk Reduction which ends on Friday in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The high level event is attended by administrative leaders, experts, politicians and professionals from Africa and other continents.

It is organized by Morocco's Ministry of Health and partner Ministries under the patronage of the country's King Mohammed VI.

The event is running under the theme 'Health in Africa: Environment and Food security.'

One of the main messages of the conclave is to promote solidarity and strengthen links between different nations in order to achieve effective South-South cooperation, in this case particularly in the field of health.
