Renowned musician, businessman and a die-hard member of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Taolo Moshaga, who recently announced his departure from the party to run as an independent candidate in the parliamentary race for the Kanye East constituency has retraced his steps back to the BDP.

In a recent interview with The Midweek Sun, Moshaga unveiled his plans to quit the BDP and join the MP race for Kanye East as an independent candidate.

At the time, Moshaga said the BDP of today was different, lacks maturity, visionary leadership and political tolerance. He had even shared how he joined the BDP when Ian Khama was the country's vice president, and remembered how he was welcomed into the party by former BDP legislator and Secretary General Botsalo Ntuane.

Renowned for his uniquely oversized red, black and white BDP-design suits, Moshaga even showed this publication his resignation letter from the BDP, confirming the termination of his BDP membership.

Information that reached The Midweek Sun recently is that Moshaga has since retracted his decision in silence, helping the Member of Parliament for Kanye East campaign for the constituency and no longer standing as an independent candidate.

His campaign activities are said to have come as a pleasant shock to some democrats who remembered how he had disparaged the present-day BDP as a party that differed significantly from its past incarnation, and that he instead had chosen to distance himself from engaging in cheap politics to focus instead on issues affecting Batswana and ordinary citizens.

Much to the contrary, Moshaga has been spotted around the constituency draped in BDP colours to woe voters to rally behind incumbent area Member of Parliament Thapelo Letsholo, with reports that he had already spoken to him to assure the youthful MP of his support, and assuring him that he still remains a member of the BDP in good standing.

When contacted by this publication for an interview regarding his reported party activities and being seen in BDP colours contrary to what he had shared before, Moshaga could not confirm his return to the party, but admitted wearing a BDP CAVA cap only for protection from the sunlight. In fact, prior to Moshaga's resignation, there had been circulating rumours within Kanye suggesting that he was aligning himself with the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF).

He later later denied such reports linking him to the BPF, saying that instead, he preferred to take up the role of a nation-builder, highlighting his collaborations with individuals from opposition parties such as advocate Duma Boko, BCP's Dumelang Seleshando, and Ndaba Gaolatlhe. Moshaga also expressed frustration with individuals whom he said were subjective and self-centered, incorrectly labelling him and spreading misinformation that he said was meant to mislead the nation.

When reached for comment about the news of Moshaga's resignation and it's retraction, Kanye East MP Letsholo would only share that as a loyal and dedicated member of the BDP, one of his foremost objectives was to attract more members to their ranks and ensure the retention of existing members.

"It was concerning to hear rumours of Moshaga’s departure from our party, so I am genuinely relieved and pleased to learn that he has reconsidered his decision," said Letsholo.

He added that the BDP remains the essential party to guide Botswana towards a brighter future. "Together, we are stronger, united in our dedication to our nation's progress," Letsholo stated.
