A 29-year-old man from Pilane, Tshepiso Moutswi, who had been chased away and disowned by his family, returned home in Marulamantsi ward on Saturday and attacked his family members and those who tried to help, with an axe handle.According to neighbours who spoke to The Midweek Sun, the accused, who is supposed to appear before court this Wednesday, stormed his family home, slapped his mother, broke the house windows, and attacked every member of the family. When the family members screamed and appealed for help, he took an axe handle and brutally attacked them. Among the neighbours who were beaten and injured with the axe handle was a 59-year-old woman, who is still hospitalised at Princess Marina Hospital with broken limbs, and a 79-year-old man who was injured in the eye. After attacking them, the man left, but on his way, he encountered another neighbour, a woman who innocently asked if he had heard the screams. He also attacked her, causing her injuries."He had long threatened to harm all his family members inside the house for disowning him. He had always fought with his family, which led to them eventually chasing him away from home," a concerned neighbour who did not go to the scene to assist, explained.Other relatives only heard about the incident. They were informed that Tshepiso's mother had taken the injured to the hospital, only to find the doors of their home broken when they returned."After attacking his family and the neighbours, he fled the scene. Other residents helped the police to search for him, and he was arrested on Sunday. Since then, he has not returned to his family home," the accused's female cousin, said.Confirming the incident, Mochudi Police Station Commander Superintendent Joel Masilo explained that some of those attacked with an axe handle are relatives and are recovering in the hospital. The woman who was attacked for asking questions has been released from the ICU. "The accused is set to appear before the Mochudi Magistrate's Court tomorrow morning. He has caused severe injuries to the residents," Masilo said this Tuesday.
