A livid 31-year-old woman stormed the Kazungula Police Station on Monday to report that her 17-year-old daughter was raped by her middle-aged neighbour in January when she was left home alone. The mother was prompted to act after residents began noticing that her daughter had gained weight and suspected that she might be pregnant. Without wasting time, the concerned mother called the child to question her about the alleged pregnancy. The daughter confessed to the mother that she got raped by their neighbour. She told the mother that in January the neighbour came and asked the young girl to accompany him to the bush. When she refused he forcibly pulled her to the bush where he took turns raping her without using protection. The teenager also revealed that she immediately reported the incident to her aunt, who ignored the matter and never bothered to share the news with anyone.Confirming the incident, Station Commander for Kazungula police, Superintendent Howard Modo said the incident was reported on Monday and that they are yet to arrest the suspect. "It is a fresh matter, investigations in thecase just began, it is a rape case," Modo said. When asked if the aunt would face any child negligence charges, Modo could neither confirm nor deny but said investigations in the matter are ongoing.
