A 48-year-old crane driver died on Monday, June 17th after he lost control of the crane he was operating at the Debswana Jwaneng mine, and collided with a drill rig.

Senior Corporate Affairs Manager responsible for brand and stakeholder relations, Matshidiso Kamona confirmed the tragic incident in a written media release.

Kamona stated that the accident involved a crane and a drill rig, resulting in the fatal injury of an employee from one of their business partners.

Kamona said an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and assured that Debswana is providing full support to the family of the deceased.

She also requested that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult period.

Jwaneng Station Commander Superintendent Thuso Basuti confirmed that the incident was reported on Monday afternoon.

Police officers immediately went to the scene and took the crane driver to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead, he said.
