Counting of votes is currently underway in 43 Constituencies out of 61 across the country. The remaining 18 have started the verification process.
Out of 609 polling districts for Councils, 191 results have been received and verified. Counting of the remaining 418 Councils is expected to be completed by midnight today.
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Secretary, Jefferson Siamisang says among the challenges they experienced is during the transportation of ballot boxes from some polling centres to counting centres is that some members of the public blocked vehicles carrying boxes, demanding to be allowed into the vehicles. IEC officials were able to handle the situation and ballot boxes were delivered safely.
He regrets that some party agents, insisted on locking ballot boxes at the closure of some polling stations but were not available to open them at counting centres, forcing IEC officials to force open them.
While Presiding Officers close boxes at the end of voting, party agents are allowed by law to also ensure that the boxes are secured.
