Zodwa and Khanyi Mbau rock Gabs city
It was a case of two divas who have raised a storm of controversy making their way to our capital city Gaborone in one weekend. Phew! Who could resist? It was a case of polar opposites descending on the city but entertainment fans couldn’t wait to catch a glimpse of these two ladies who have set tongues wagging in their own right. Fans of Zodwa wa Bantu and Khanyi Mbau, who are both South Africa flocked the envogue My Kind of Place (MKOP) on Friday and Saturday, to see and meet and rub shoulders with two, and perhaps figure out what it that makes them so special.
It was Mbau (32) who arrived first at the monthly Last Frydaes gig, accompanied by his long-term boyfriend Tebogo Lerole of Kwela Tebza fame. Clad in a white and silver ensemble, Mbau, who has recently received lots of slack for bleaching and whitening her skin, seemed to gel well with Batswana as she shook hands, gave out hugs and chattered away. Mbau has acted and presented a television talk show and MCed at many events. She has a book titled, ‘B**** please, I am Khanyi Mbau’ that chronicles her life. Mbau gained notoriety a few years ago when she married then millionaire Mandla Mthembu, and the two splashed money around even buying matching yellow Lamborginis.
She gained a reputation as a gold digger who exclusively dated rich men, a title she flaunted with pride, but has admitted that she was young and naïve, claiming that she has since turned over a new leaf and is happy with her bae, Lerole, who is two years older than her. The Last Frydaes gig is a concept event held monthly to allow those who enjoy high end mingling and dining, to network and have fun in a relaxed environment. The dress up event usually attracts the ‘youngish’ crowd of who’s who Zodwa wa Bantu who has been said to lack talent and often reffered to as ‘ugly’ and a ‘harlot’, appeared at ease as she mingled with her Botswana fans. The lady garnered fame when videos of her dancing at popular Durban nightspot Eyadini almost broke the Internet.
Before long, many people wanted to know who was this girl with the natural hair, stunning body and killer seductive dance moves. Within a short space of time, she became an overnight sensation and has monetised the opportunity. She has travelled across Africa and even overseas. She made her appearance in Gabs dressed in a short skirt and heels, looking lost but trying hard to fit in. She told those in attendance that she is a role model to a lot of people and encouraged them to be true to themselves and do what works for them. Zodwa Libram has said that she became by default, as all she did was do what she enjoys – have fun and dance. After her Gabs gig, the controversial lass headed for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe where she set temperatures soaring in a black lacy knitted see-through dress that left little to the imagination.
