When musos look out for each other
A number of local artistes gathered under one roof last week in Gaborone to celebrate Diva Vebrok’s 10 years anniversary in the music industry in a bid to instil teamwork and build collaborations among local artistes.
Veronica Brooks aka Vebrok says she’s been crying for these many years I over the lack of collaborations between Botswana artistes. Speaking at the event, Berry Heart the director of ceremonies applauded the diva for the initiative, noting that she is a strong independent woman who represents women in the industry very well through her hard work.
Zenzele of Zen Productions, who is also the president of Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association (BEPA), also found the gathering very important as it gave artistes a platform to share and learn about the ups and downs of the industry.
She applauded Vebrok and described her as an exemplary artist and one of the women who are very dedicated to what they do. Some of the artistes who attended the event included Shanti Lo, Wizards of the Dessert, Nono Seile, Trinity, Captain Dira and Thuli of Maphutha Dichaba amongst others.
Chairperson of BEPA and music promoter, PP said in order for artistes in Botswana to succeed they should always look out for each other and support one another. He said that he is impressed by Vebrok as she always welcomes local artistes in South Africa where she is based. On the same night, Vebrok launched her single track, ‘Oteke’ or ‘to live’.
She featured one of her new and upcoming artists, David. Still under her production company, Vebtainment Productions, a dance crew by the name Sswagg Team also had all the artistes eating from the palm of their hands as they danced vigorously to their melodies.
PP noted that by switching from House music to Afro Soul or Niger, Vebrok has indeed matured as an artist. Vebrok was all smiles as she told the Midweek Sun that despite the fact that some of the artistes did not make it to the event, those present had fun and shared ideas as a team.
“Now I know that there is light at the end of the tunnel for our industry here in Botswana because we have met and talked”, she said.
