Volleyball team for Under 23 Championships

Botswana national Under 23 team could make another appearance at the Women's African Nations Championship scheduled for Kenya later this year.

The championship that takes place every two years returns this year and  the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has entrusted the Central African country to orgainse this edition from October 20 to 27, 2016.

It is only the second edition of this age category competition after the first one that was hosted by Algeria in 2014. The October competition will act also as a qualifier for the FIVB World Championship of this age group in 2017. CAVB has already sent invitations to the African national federations to register their teams and teams expected to slug it out at the competition include defending champions, Egypt, runners up Tunisia and the bronze medalists Algeria.

Botswana participated in the last edition with players that included captain Sesha Matswiri and her deputy captain at the time, Tsebo Marape, both at BDF VI. Other players who made a part of the tournament where they finished fourth include Collin Moithei, Thapelo Kamberuka, Caroline Rodger, Tshiamo Chakalisa (all of Kutlwano) as well as Moitlamo Nkobedi, Jestinah Moyo and Neo Ketumele (all of Dynamites).

The championship is open to players born on 1st January 1995 or after and most of the players in that 2014 edition will still be eligible to participate at this year’s competition. The team was coached by Botswana Volleyball Federation’s (BVF) Technical Officer Peaceful Seleka, Dynamites Volleyball Club’s coach Mpho Tlhaselo and Cuban volleyball expert hired by Botswana National Sports Council, Manuel Torres.
