Visual artist Ditshupo Mogapi reaches for the stars
Ditshupo Mogapi is one of the most promising local artists in Botswana right now. Mogapi who hails from Ramotswa, was recently one of the two artists who exhibited their works at the recently held Wine & Art Picnic event held at The Venue is Mokolodi.
He is also a member of the Thapong Visual Arts Centre, where he has a studio. His love for art can be traced back to his Senior School days in 2008 when he realised that he had a gift. But he only pursued art after school, he says.
He has not looked back since then. “When I finished school, I joined Thapong as a member. This accorded me many opportunities and opened doors for me. The art centre has a lot to offer me,” he says. Mogapi points out that he does a lot of work around people, which attracts a lot of customers for him and also allows him to showcase his artistic talents.
He adds that he also uses cultural concepts and way of life to find inspiration for his next piece of work. Mogapi has previously won awards for Best in Painting (2006), as well as Best Upcoming Artist in the annual Thapong Artists of the Year awards (TAYA). He shares that his dream is to enhance his craft and eventually see his work exhibited at top galleries around the world.
