Thobo Cultural Festival to rock Knockduff Festival
All roads lead to Lobatse plantation this Saturday for the annual Thobo Cultural Festival which is back with a bang after a break. The Thobo cultural festival is a celebration of diverse cultures.
According to one of the organisers Tshepo Thedi, the festival is an educational, fun and welcoming to celebrate each other’s culture in this globalised world we live in.
She further said that this year, Thobo Cultural festival has decided to broaden itself by involving other cultures like South Africa, Indian, Nigerian, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia and so forth. It is of importance that we involve other cultures in order to see their traditions, traditional clothes and their home foods. Thedi explained to Vibe that Thobo is a 100% citizen owned and driven initiative; Thobo Traditional Festival. “ The festival is a cultural initiative and is undertaken in a private capacity by a group of community in Lobatse, majority being the youth. And the event is based on giving back to the community, that is we are raising funds for the vulnerable children in Lobatse and the surrounding areas,” she said. She added that the festival started in the year 2015 and was registered as a Society on the 19th May 2016.
Thedi further noted that Thobo Cultural Festival is a multi –faceted cultural event whose objectives include, but are not limited to the promotion of indigenous culture, the celebration and promotion of local cuisine, trade in local foods and showcasing local talent, arts and crafts, in order to enhance the lives of local community.
“We also promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and self- help through trading with such commodities. We also raise funds for all the disadvantaged people like orphans, destitute and the disabled in Lobatse.”
