The search for Miss RADP
Themed ‘unearthing natural beauty and talent’ this year’s Miss Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) is taking place this Saturday, 27th February at Botho University.
The pageant which was postponed last year due to the accident which claimed the many young lives of Matsha Secondary School students is promising to be entertaining as the 13 young ladies taking part have already promised each other a run for their money.
Speaking at a press brief Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Botlogile Tshireletso said the pageant is aimed at facilitating talent identification, encouraging behaviour change especially among the youth, promoting inclusiveness of the young women in the mainstream society as well as to build their self-esteem through participation in national events amongst others.
She said that although the pageant has not reached its full potential, she considered that it was moving in the right direction. “Our expectation is that each reigning beauty queen and her 1st and 2nd Princesses are to be ambassadors of the Remote Area Development Programme by way of participation in in community projects,” she said.
Amongst others, the prizes include P50 000 for a project and P10 000.00 in cash for the queen, 1st Princess wins P30 000 for a project and P7 000 cash. The 2nd Princess gains P20 000 for a project and P5000 in cash.
The Botswana Marketing Board (BAMB) has also pledged a voucher of P5000 for the winner and cash amounting to P1000.
