TEFO NOMBOLO

Mafitlhakgosi traditional dance group has gone against the odds stacked against them and managed to be stars in their own right as they are now recognised all over the country as a force to be reckoned with in dance.

Mokgweetsi Kabomo and Joseph Dikgomo, who imparted skills to youth, facilitated the workshop which lasted two days. The instruments learnt during the workshop include dikatara tsa Setswana, digaba and setinkane.

The founder of Mafitlhakgosi group, Joseph Ikopeng was very enthusiastic about the workshop. He encouraged artists to use the skills they acquired from the workshop to enhance their products and benefit from their creative talents.

Some participants were not happy when the workshop ended on Sunday as they felt that the time allocated for them to learn how to play the instruments was not enough. Ikopeng and his team have therefore decided to source funds to host a week long Zola music camp in December, where youth will be taught to play musical instruments.

Mafitlhakgosi was established in November 2009 with the intention to keep young people in the township of Old Naledi busy so that they don’t dabble in destructive anti-social behaviour. Judging by the large number of members who have swarmed towards the group and its popularity, this intention has been achieved.
