Teenager takes trap music by storm

Dintle Balole (16) of Oodi is aiming for the stars and is confident that he will rise to the top and shine among celebrated trap artists. Popularly known by his stage name DintleonTrack the lad recently unleashed his first trap offering titled No Sleep. As trap music fast penetrates the local music industry, the audience appreciates its ability to add a little spice to the original hip – Hop genre.

Artists have of recent been fusing it with other genres to create unique sound beats and perhaps that is what gives No Sleep a different taste from other artists. Balole told Vibe that he was bitten by the music bug from a young age and could not shake it off.

“I always found himself composing songs instead of doing his school work,” he said. His love for music gives him goose bumps and as he enters the ‘lion’s den’ (music industry) where chances of success are normally limited he fears for the future.

But at the same time, he pulls on a brave face and is optimistic that with the right guidance and determination, he will be telling another story in the near future. Balole is currently a student at St Joseph’s College and faced with a mammoth task of balancing his schoolwork with music. “I know I have to excel in my studies too and I want to remain focused, but music appears to be my calling too,” he said.

He was privileged to have artists such as Gappy Roberts, Ignor3d, Teddy West, Kamafhoko and Twisted Soul supporting him. “They are the ones who ensured that I release that wonderful jam,” he said. Balolwe began working on his project early this year and took a significant amount of time perfecting it. “It went through the gifted hands of FarmBoyz music studio producer Tribal Tiido.

Tiido is famous of having worked with the likes of Beery Heart, Prince De Kok and Brian Chase,” he said. Local artists Vee, Scar and Zeus musically inspire the young man. Young Chop, who is a local producer at Farmboyz Music Studio, was his influential figure in terms of production. “My creativity makes me different from other musicians. I believe that the sound I am bringing will make me different in the music industry. I also believe that what I produce has the potential to be recognised internationally,” he said.
