Queen of Jazz Punah releases fifth studio album

Queen of Jazz Punah Gabasiane- Molale has released a fifth sizzling Afro Jazz album. She held a listening session last Thursday for the album titled ‘Jazzing up’ prior to its official release this week. Jazz fanatics together with other seasoned musicians across all genres thronged Dros in Molapo Crossing to witness in person as the “Iyoo nna” singer serenaded the audience with some soothing jams from her latest album. Punah gave a thunderous music presentation after long speeches given by the event attendees among them, the Minister of Basic Education Unity Dow.

Jazzing up album with a feel of a fused Western and Tswana music approach possess tracks like ‘Kgomo’. ‘Kgomo’ the opening track for the album is a depiction of how much a cow is valuable in the lives of most Batswana. Botswana’s finest award-winning jazz lady explained that the title is relevant because the animal has played part in her life too like many other Batswana she too was sent to school because of it.

One song that needs no introduction to Batswana is the folk song ‘Lentswe o re pha pha’. The song is centred on a folk story of a girl who was wicked to a rock that had tripped her and the rock grew instantly allowing her no room to pass over it hence the request made to it through song. Punah also said that the album is an advanced project. “The live recording has a natural feel because of the live percussions played in the songs,” she said. Attendees danced and wined the evening away, as Punah thrilled them in song. Malebeswa’ singer Lizibo and Dow made the biggest CD purchases that evening. The album will be sold at Street Horn in Molapo Crossing and BotswanaCraft.
