Offers free advice to wannabe artists

My star runner-up Obakeng Matebu believes it’s about time My Star artists sustain their music and remain absolute performers as is expected of them throughout the country.

Speaking in an interview with Vibe Obakeng said most artists do not approach music with love, they lack passion and have a partial mindset. “You cannot say you are a musician while you really do not have the love for music, most of the people who won before have wasted their opportunity of becoming something greater in the industry. For me I have the exposure I need, I got the foundation and I only have to continue my mission and keep on rising and make sure I never fall back.”

Obakeng revealed that he will release a series of albums, mix tapes and singles in the coming six months. “I will be flashing out music in the coming months to keep my fans busy and entertained, at the end of the day I am not trying to make quick cash out of it, it’s only my enthusiastic love and passion that’s leading me,” he pointed out. The sleek and smart dressing singer will host a show in Maun at Sakaumba farm on 30 July alongside his My Star campaign partner, Sharon.

Tickets for the show go for P30.
Moreover, the My Star fan favourite who became an MCM (to those leaving under the rocks mcm is the acronym for Man Crush Monday) to many ladies on social media said music is an art that needs to be perfected before being distributed out to the fans. “For the sake of avoiding disappointments ensure that you perfect and love your art, you don’t become an artist at the blink of an eye. You go through different series of events and most (of them) are challenging.”

He went on to say that perfection comes with listening to different artists and different genres of music and getting different perspectives and angles of music. “Most artists here at home do not perfect their art before they present it, if you present something you expect people to love it back and if the presentation is poor nobody is going to be interested in it and the next thing you will feel discouraged” he counselled.

The robust rap and pop performer has earned a few accolades to his name. “I have been recently appointed Marketing Manager for MGKO consultants, I will be around the media marketing the company and myself too,” he said. Obakeng will also rebrand and change his performance name from Obakeng to Osiris Black. He is also expected to release a new single titled Osiris Black before the end of the month, the single will present his rebranding to the fans.
