Ntombo releases his debut album

Sebina based contemporary traditional dance artist Kemang Ntombo has released his first contemporarised boronkana traditional album titled Ke jele lekgela.

Ntombo honed his skills to become a sought after borankana artist when he joined Phuduhudu dance and clap group in 2008. When the group disbanded in 2012, he joined yet another clap and dance group in Francistown known as Tau tsa setso.

“When I realised that I had gained enough experience and exposure, I decided to form my own group based in Dukwi called Dukwi Cultural group. After saving some money, I headed for the recording studios to record my first album which is currently doing fine in the market,” Ntombo said. Ke jele lekgela is a song about a cheated man complaining that another man is stealing his woman.

The artist explains that his love rival is always laughing at him knowing very well that he is cheating with his wife. He notes that his fence is no longer secure due to the effects of a large prisons boot that is used to step on the fence on the way to his wife. “Wa tshela ebile o bina pina ka tlhogo o tshega bagolo. Mme o tla swelwa ke tshegang” which when loosely translated means that the cheating man is enjoying himself but will eventually stop laughing when the husband takes matters into his hands.

Apart from the rich lyrics, the programming of the song is excellent as it blends well with the sorrowful lyrics. Other songs in the album include Ntombo, Oqangqwa, Makanangwane, Kgang tsa motse and letshegang. There are a few things that the artist needs to work on like mastering of the songs that leaves a lot to be desired. The album sleeve is also not of international standard but there is hope that the artist will improve all this over time.
