Nchunga wraps her love letters in grand style
Lesego Nchunga aka Leshie Lovesong, just seems to possess the stage when she takes to it for a performance.
The multi-talented performer was at her best this past Friday at Maitisong during her show simply titled 'Be'; the last of her love letters. A lawyer by profession, she is also a poet, songwriter, producer and singer by passion.
Nchunga’s love letters started back in 2014. The first letter, ‘Falling’ focused on two people falling in love while the second titled, ‘Breathe’, enumerated the various events that happen in a relationship. ‘Be’ speaks of walking away from everything and accepting yourself for who you are. The whole performance was divided into two acts: the first being poetry recital accompanied by contemporary dancing.
The second was all about singing. Walking onto the stage dressed in a white dress Leshie Lovesong, accompanied by two dancers - male and a female - wasted no time and started reciting her poems. In the second part of the show, she dedicated one of her love letters written in the vernacular (Setswana) to her father.
“This love song is for my father and I am sure that stars remember why they gather when he smiles,” she said giving the audience a very broad smile. Before the night ended, she performed one of her popular songs from the 2014 Love letter to the delight of the audience.
“Hello mister, we could look into each other’s eyes,’’ the audience sang along with her closing a beautiful journey of her love letters that began in 2014
