Music artists unite in One Voice for Charity gig
Many local artists are realising the importance of using their popularity and celebrity status to give back to their communities, particularly the less privileged.
Local hip-hop rapper, Touch Motswak (real name Thabo Rantao) whose single Bula Boot is pumping airwaves and parties alike, has climbed the charity bandwagon and has rounded up his music industry friends and acquaintances to organise a charity concert that will benefit Re Fa Ka Bone centre, situated in Ramotswa.
The charity event will be held at Tashy’s Royal Gardens, Boatle, on June 4.Touch Motswak says that he came across the centre while driving around the village, and realised that it lacked resources and is in dire need of assistance. The centre caters for the elderly and mentally disabled in the village.
Most of the individuals catered for live alone, or are forced to remain alone during the day when their caretakers have other errands to attend to. The centre, which offers breakfast and afternoon tea, relies on the donations of good Samaritans in the community to keep operating.
Touch Motswak says he was touched by the plight of the individuals and the selfless work the centre does. “I wanted to do something good for them so I spoke to a few people and we decided to stage a charity concert for the centre’s benefit. Many people would like to help the less privileged and donate to charity, but they do not have the platform to do so. We have created a platform for people to help under the The One voice in song for charity event. The great thing is that attendees will have fun while also giving to charity,” he explains.
Although this is a free to enter concert, attendees are encouraged to contribute something at the door, whether food hampers, clothes or blankets, which will be immediately handed over to Re Fa Bone centre representatives.
There will entertainment galore on the day as poet Ramagodimo and Joyful Noise Gospel group with soothe revellers while electrifying the stage will be Kearoma Rantao, Tyte, Top Diva, Lorato Rantao, Tswana Kid, Porsche, Poifo, Jah Gene, Touch Motswak and Omgee. Burning the decks to keep the chilly weather at bay will be DJs Stanza, Mswati, Rasta and Yamie among others.
