MTN Joyous 22 …What a night!
True to their word, the Life changing concert by MTN Joyous Celebration was a world-class performance with mesmerizing sounds and mind-blowing production. The popular South African ensemble was in Gaborone last Saturday for their ‘Joyous 22’ tour, organised by Brave Heart.
University of Botswana Sports Arena was packed to the rafters as multitudes had across the country and from the neighbouring Namibia and Zimbabwe. Perhaps other than the magnificently beautiful venue, Brave Heart should be commended for their impressive sound system, which did not disappoint throughout the show. Umoya Kulendawo, the people’s favourite and the group’s first single, was received with massive applauses and praises. Modimo ke Lerato, the second single, was also a hit. Joyous Celebration still has the magic that connected them to their fans when they started more than a decade ago.
Jehovah, Bazovuma, Uyaphendula, Busa, Bambelela, Atawale, ZuliphateKahle, Uyinqaba, just to mention a few, are a true testament of the distinct Joyous flavour that has made the ensemble the household name it has become.
All the artists delivered excellence. Lindelani Mkhize and Mthunzi Namba were there, with the former directing the group and Namba doing what he does best with his anointed voice. Another highlight was the performance by Tshepo Nkadimeng, talented artist from Polokwane who lost he’s eyesight at the tender age of 7.
He knows how to own the stage and command attention. Joyous Celebration made spiritual and emotional connections with the audiences through every performance, with equal parts laughter and tears. With their modern spin on traditional hymns, this larger-than-life group has been a revolving platform for fresh talent since 1996.
