First Models Management is preparing for the first ever Mister Africa International 2015, to be held in Botswana. This pageant is aimed at developing and empowering men to combat and address social issues like reducing gender inequalities, preventing HIV, ending gender based violence and promoting the health and well being of the society.
The pageant event is themed ‘Eye of the tiger,’ and the finale is billed for the third of December 2015 at Fairgrounds Holdings. First Models’ events Director Kefilwe Mukokomani told the media that Botswana was chosen as host after winning the bid against Ghana. “We as First Models Management won the bid to host this great event in Africa for the first time after three seasons in Belgium,” she said.
Mukokomani said that they have been endorsed by Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) and HATAB as a ‘credible and meaningful pageant.’ Among the attributes that lead to Botswana being the host country are 'it is a democratic country of peace and stability, it is safe and its diamonds have never been associated with war'. The Botswana representative, Mister Ideal Botswana 2015, Joseph Wellio, who was recently crowned, states that he is working hard to keep the crown in Botswana He pleaded with Batswana to help him overcome the social issues affecting the country.
“My main concern at the moment is the water crisis issue. I wish to raise awareness and encourage the society to preserve the little drop that they get once in a while,” he said. Wellio - who hails from the tourist resort town of Maun that boasts the ever-flowing Thamalakane River - admits that the entire country is hit by water crisis. He will go on a walk for hope to inform and educate different communities on water conversation, gender and equality issues. He is also encouraging the youth to consider sports in order to adopt healthy lifestyles.
“I am a sports fanatic and believe that through utilising sports opportunities, young men could avoid finding themselves in issues like gender based violence”.
Mukokomani requests the society to assist them through sponsorship to enable them to accomplish their mission.
