Local Entertainment Company donates chairs to Mmopane Kgotla
Local music production company Spitfire Entertainment recently joined forces with Youth in Action Society and Western to donate 20 chairs to the Mmopane village Kgotla in the Kweneng district.
The chairs, which are hand decorated with Botswana flag colours, were donated during the Anti-Alcohol and Drugs awareness campaign meant to sensitize the youth about the negative effects of alcohol. Receiving the chairs last week Thursday, the village Headman Mokgojwe Pule said that the donation meant a lot to residents.
He said that they have always had a challenge of shortage of chairs at the village kgotla but now they are content about the situation. The occasion saw members of the community breaking into ululations as they received the chairs. Officiating at the event, Spitfire entertainment owner Thabang Wanthata said that the resemblance of the mark of Botswana flag color is to appreciate the upcoming BOT 50 celebrations.
“So much has happened in our country in the past and now it is about time that we also do something for our country, that is why we have decided to give back to the community through these chairs,” said Wanthata who is affectionately known as Stompie.
Wanthata also highlighted that students did not like seating on the ground during Kgotla events, therefore the donation challenges them to attend Kgotla events, designed to improve their lives. Moreover, Wanthata compared Mmopane village to Old Naledi location in Gaborone adding that, both areas were struck by the abuse of drugs and alcohol. “We hope this campaign will somehow change one or two lives in the long run”
