Lizibo rocks during live DVD recording
Afro jazz singer, Lizibo Simon captivated the audience on Saturday at Maitisong, with the story of his musical career. Right from when he was a child to the present day.
The evening that was full of laughter, fun and an amazing display of talent also doubled as a live recording of his DVD. The first half of the show, seemingly, a trip down memory lane featured Lizibo paying homage to the artists who have had an impact on his musical career.
Coming onto the stage singing the old Kalanga song, delele langu le pamoto, he explained that it was a song his grandmother used to sing when he was growing up. The song was accompanied by Hosanna dance by Mafitlhakgosi dance troupe. Mr Tagg’s song, selemela would then follow much to the delight of the audience. Other performances included a collaboration with Kgotla on matshidiso and Sethunya Maele on Lovie.
Lizibo also thanked KTM choir and The Royal Tenors for helping and developing him as an artist. He finished off the collaborations with Tshepo Lesole, whom he referred to as his friend, mentor and the man behind so many of his songs. If there was ever any doubt of how romantic the Kalanga language sounds, Lizibo removed it with songs like wakanaka, malibeswa and shetla lame from his album due in two weeks’ time.
