Kulenyane collaborates with SA's MmaAusi
Botswana’s international acclaimed traditional music group Culture Spears continues to climb the international music charts thanks to collaboration with a South African traditional music icon Mmausi. This performer of repute is a South African Traditional Music Awards multi-nominee and winner.
According to the group’s leader Kabelo Mogwe, who has recently branded as Kulenyane, Culture Spears is still intact and his collaboration with Mmausi who is a prowess in singing should not make people to believe that she is being groomed to replace Charma Gal (Magdeline Lesolebe) who has since joined together with Thembeni Ramosetlheng left when she the group to pursue solo careers.
Clearing the air before the interview, Mogwe told Vibe that his collaboration with Mmausi should not give people the impression that she will be part of Culture Spears soon. “I have always admired the artist without actually knowing that the same applied to her. It was only through one of her interviews with Motsweding FM when a presenter asked her to consider collaborating with me.
She was receptive to the suggestion and seemed equally keen,” he said. He further explained that the project had taken off smoothly thereafter. “Following her interview she contacted me and we discussed about the collaboration. I decided that it should be recorded in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe at Culture Spears’ first production house owned by Joe Maseko; the producer who recorded all the groups’ albums until Kueletsana,” he said. Mogwe noted that they had initially wanted to record a single but failed to do that since it would not make business sense.
“We then decided to record an eight-track album titled Debeisane, which is due for release this week. It will surely remind borankana lovers of days gone by looking. Mmausi, who is a gifted satirical artist, has added magic to the offering and combined with her wonderful voice, this offering will blow everyone away.”
