Jojo, Gilbert promotions in back love
Rejoice Gaonakala who is popularly known by her stage name, Jojo, has retraced her steps back to Gilbert Promotions after she ditched the promotions company last year due to what she has termed ‘big headedness caused by her new found fame’.
The 28 year old songstress, who hails from Mmadinare, admitted that she was a “nobody” in the music industry until she met PP (Gilbert Sealogile) of Gilbert Promotions who roped her under his management. “When I first met PP, I did not have any and no bookings were coming forth since I was an unknown performer, but due to the prowess of PP as a promoter of repute, I managed to get bookings in countries like South Africa, Malawi and Lesotho. When bookings started pouring in, I became big headed.
I was also negatively influenced by some fellow musicians who told me that PP was ripping me off and that is when I got angry and walked out of the company. Moreover, I was fed up with people who were spreading rumors that I was having an affair with PP, who was just my manager. The whole situation confused me further hence our much talked about ‘divorce’ on social media last year,” she explained.
Jojo said that after parting ways with Gilbert Promotions, her parents sat her down and encouraged her to reconsider her decision. “My mother did not mince her words as she openly told me that before I met PP I owned nothing but since working with him, I had managed to build myself a house and improve my lifestyle. She made me realise that I was making a mistake, and I took her advice,” she said.
When reached for comment, PP confirmed that Jojo had rejoined Gilbert Promotions as a signed artist unlike before when she was only managed by the company. “When she decided to walk away from the company, there were rumors that we had separated due to love gone wrong, claims which were unfounded. I am a professional. I have managed female artists such as Slizer and Charma Gal.
When I saw the rumors on social media, I just shrugged it off since I knew that people were mistaken. I kept quiet knowing that the rumours would eventually die down,” he said. PP added that Jojo’s pending album would be released in March following a postponement last year.
