Dikhwaere get a spruce up

A recent competition that was held in the lands of Ramakgatlanyana aims to give a whole new meaning to one of the oldest forms of entertainment in some parts of the country, namely traditional choirs.

Over the holidays, the area located in Molepolole South played host to a hotly contested competition between five choirs that included Malekwa 1 & 2, Senior Choir, and Zambia Choir. Monageng Valuers and partners sponsored the event.

Attracting revellers from different walks of life, the event was also attended by high profile personalities such as Kgosi Kgari the 3rd, MP for Molepolole South Hon Tlamelo Mmatli, councillors and dikgosana from Kweneng, as well as the former UB Vice Chancellor Professor Botlhogile.

Speaking in an interview with VIBE, Shima Monageng explained that having witnessed the event in the last two years it was only right that his company came on board this year.

He said that coming on board was his way of improving and taking the event to another level through sponsoring the prize giving ceremony. “Through the event, we wanted to create an atmosphere where people could welcome the new year in a joyous mood as well as preserve an important part of Batswana culture,” he said. He added that they are considering extending the event and holding it throughout the night.

One of the councillors in Molepolole South, Motlhophi Leo said that they want to see the event taken to higher heights. “It would be great if the choirs from Ramakgatlanyana compete with others in the district, and eventually compete with choirs from Mochudi and Kanye,” he said.
