Church choirs battle it out for P100 000 on April 29

Gospel Wagon Entertainment is bringing together 20 church choirs under one roof to compete for a whopping P100 000.

According to director Samuel Kealotswe, the event aims at uniting local churches and religious leaders and will be like one big church this April 29 at Ditshupo Hall.

Explaining the competition, organiser, Gugu Mavuma said each church will contest with three songs. Registration fee is P5000 per church, and church leaders are requested to approach organisers who will explain the criteria to them.

Local Gospel star Tshepo Lesole will be a judge, along with William Sejake of popular South African choir Joyous Celebration and SA Gospel award winner Sfiso Ncwane of ‘Kulungile Baba’ fame.  Vee Mampeezy will be the MC of the night, while DJ Kellz will be on the decks.

Mavuma said they also aim at mobilising Gospel music. “Gospel is very neglected in our country. We want to change that,” he stated. Another organiser, Mmoloki Nsinamwa, said they are not just targeting churches in Gaborone and called on others across the country to register.

In addition he said it’s not just one church denomination. “We are trying to fight divisions in the church of God,” he said. The winning church praise and worship team will also win a recording deal with Tshepo Lesole. Other finalists will also be awarded prizes.

Pre-sold tickets go for P200, and P250 at the gate. The event is expected to be hosted annually.
