Ban T's video is a work of pure magic

Legends and Jonnies come lately of the Hip Hop industry thronged Masa Square over the weekend for the private viewing of Baanthata Mokgwathi aka BanT’s ‘Naomi’ music video in a night dubbed, ‘celebration of hip hop.’

It was a dress to impress event and as much as many people adhered to the dress code, it was the video which impressed the audience so much that they gave it a standing ovation.

Despite starting an hour late, the audience’s reaction spoke volumes; that they were impressed with the video. Some called it a work of art whilst others simply said it was marvellous.

The video was directed by Owen Bands whose name seems to be synonymous with quality and brilliance judging from the thunderous applause which the audience gave when it was mentioned that he was the director.

It features local celebrities such as Sasa Klaas, the German twins and Yarona FM presenter, Mimi ‘Zizi Panther’ Mokgwathi. It is centred on him looking for this mystery woman called Naomi.

When the time came for the man of the moment to have his say about the video, he said that he could not really say much as he was overcome by nerves but he was very happy with the end product. “This video was done about a month ago and I was so happy with it that I wanted to show it to the world there and then,”” he said.

However, his team convinced him to wait for the right time which is how it came to be shown a month later and judging from the reaction of the audience, he was glad he had waited. He said his conceptualisation was influenced by the many videos he had watched before settling for his best.

The video took three days to shoot but before then, there was a lot of work done such as coming up with story boards and so forth. He also thanked his parents and his team for the support they gave him.

His Manager, Zenzele Hirschfield of Zen Promotions, spoke about how impressed she had been when she made the decision to work with him as she realised that he didn’t come to her empty handed, but had his own team of workers. By doing so, they already had a foundation with which she could work with.

After the question and answer session and the video screening there remained a question on everyone’s lips, “Did BanT ever find his Naomi?” to which he answered, no he had not. However, what can be found is the video on www.naomimusic.com for a week only.
