ATI steals limelight at BOMU awards

The long awaited BOMU Music Awards thrilled at GICC this past Saturday.

The legendary ATI proved that he was this year’s favourite artist as he scooped six awards. The audience was filled with gratitude when the energetic young artist was labelled the fairest of them all. Thus, he has identified this year’ song of the year as the much adored Khiring Khorong. His other awards include: Best single, Best collaboration, Best Hip Hop artist and the Best male artist. Like he has promised before that he would donate one of his awards to the national museum if he happens to win any award, he has donated his Hip Hop award to the museum. He said the motive behind this move was to “give the upcoming artists some motivation of the music industry in the future.” Mokolodi hitmaker Charma Gal walked away with the Best Female artist gong.

The show was a spectacular one in terms of fashion as the audience looked stunning in their lovely outfits. The sound quality was also far much better this time around compared to the past years. Figos from Black Money Makers also gave a stellar performance and the main man ATI also shone with his electric dance moves when he performed the song of the year.

For the new addition on the awards, Clap n Tap music was also welcomed in an enthralling manner as the audience stood on its feet to praise the choirs that presented. The winner for this category was Maatla a Roma. The best Traditional Gospel award went to Obakeng while Ounah walked away winner of the Best Gospel music category. DJ Bino won the best house album. He expressed his gratitude. “It was my first time getting an award and I appreciate BOMU for the good spirit of motivating the artists.”

Kabelo Tiro aka Skavenja who has been off the music scenes for about seven years returned with a bang, as he won the Best Packaged album and Best Afro pop artist awards. The Best Producer award went to Reuben of Rhuu’s music and BK Proctor walked away with the Best Music Video award winner. The ‘we must Praise choir’ won the Best New comer award and they pleaded with Batswana to support them.

The show proved to be a stellar one as even the international visitors from Lesotho urged Batswana to support their own music, stating that it is brilliant. ATI even got an invite as they said one of the local artists is supposed to perform in Lesotho soon.
