FOOTBALL The Botswana Under 17 Women's Football Team is in training camp in preparation for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Qualifiers, which will be played on February 6th and 9th at the National Stadium against Burundi. This is a historic opportunity for the team, as a spot in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is at stake. The team has been training hard and is ready to take on their opponents and earn a spot in the World Cup.
If the team can achieve positive results on their first and second leg against Burundi, they will advance to the next round of the African World Cup Qualifiers. The under 17 women's Head Coach, Jacqueline Lorato Gaobinelwe, stated that they have been working hard to prepare the team for their match against Burundi, and that they are confident they can bring positive results.
“We have been in training camp for a long time in preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers, and we take this match very seriously. We want to continue to represent Botswana women's football at international competitions, and our preparations have been going well so far,” she said.
She stated that the team has been in training camp since they began their preparations, assessing all the necessary departments of the team. They have been working on all aspects of their game, from the goalkeeping department to the midfield and forwards, to ensure that they are at their best. They are committed to giving their all and representing the country to the best of their abilities.
“Our players are already in good shape since many of them play in their clubs and the women's league is in full swing. Therefore, bringing them together for training camp was not a challenge, as they are already in the zone. We are just fine-tuning their skills, as they are already great players who are motivated by the example set by the senior team, the Mares,” Gaobinelwe mentioned.
She highlighted that they have been following their training camp plan to the letter and working to build a unified team, since the players come from different clubs. She is confident that the team will put on a good performance against Burundi and progress to the next stage of the qualifiers.
“We are working on brushing up their skills, improving their teamwork, and making sure they know each other's play style. This will help them form a strong team combination. The training camp continues until the day of the match, so we have plenty of time to refine their skills, fix any issues, and plan for a win,” she stated.
