Botswana Football Association (BFA) has decided to terminate the national team contract of Mogomotsi Mpote, the outgoing head coach of the senior men's football team. While Mpote's contract was set to end in 2025, he says he is fine with the BFA's decision.In November of last year, Mpote signed a three-year contract with the BFA to coach the national team. He had planned to build the team over the course of the contract, but only a year later, the BFA took the decision to release him from his position.In a statement, the BFA stated that after an internal assessment and evaluation of the current state of the Zebras and where the team wanted to be, they felt it was time for a change.In an interview with Sun Sports, Mpote spoke about his immediate termination of contract, emphasizing that he had been informed that the team had dropped points during his 11 months as coach.Despite this, he stated that he was not worried or upset by the BFA's decision. He expressed that he understood their perspective and respected their decision going forward.The Botswana Football Association released a press release, dated October 24, 203, announcing their decision to part ways with the Zebras' national team head coach. In the release, they acknowledged that this was not an easy decision and that they did not intend to downplay its significance. They expressed their gratitude to Mpote for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.The BFA stated that the decision to part ways with Mpote was made with the best interests of the Zebras in mind. The BFA National Executive Committee, led by its president, Maclean Letshwiti, has already begun a process to ensure a smooth transition and as the team will be entering a difficult and demanding era as they try to qualify for the AFCON 2025 and the World Cup 2026.The Zebras' World Cup qualifiers campaign begins on November 18th, with a match against Mozambique, followed by a game against Guinea on November 21st 2023.
