Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has planned to organize a victory ceremony to honor and appreciate achievements by National teams from the just ended year 2022 major events.
The team recently attended the Africa Senior Championship, Oregon22 World Athletics Championships, Cali22 World Athletics U20 Championships and the Birmingham22 Commonwealth Games.
The local athletics team has had a fruitful year doing well at the Under 20 Championships with star boy, Tebogo Letsile scooping gold medal in the 100m and silver in the 200m category.
Nonetheless, the team came out empty handed from the Athletics Championships, something that doesn’t usually happen with local athletes, the Commonwealth Games gave local athletes chance to bounce back but it was never to be.
The BAA will still appreciate the athletes for their efforts on the track, and according to the press release, signed by BAA General Manager, Pinkie Wilson, the victory ceremony will celebrate the 2022 teams that scourged the earth in efforts to get medals.
The event will be held on September 26, 2022 with most of the local athletes expected to grace the event.
The likes of Tebogo Letsile, Isaac Makwala, Anthony Pesela and Sesoba Matlapeng are expected to be appreciated. Speaking in an interview, BAA Vice President Technical, Oabona Theetso said they welcome all the gifts from the public, while the association will only host an appreciation dinner without prizes.
