The Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) is demanding that the Board of National Arts Council of Botswana lacks an understanding that we, the Creative Industry Practitioners are primary clients, intended beneficiaries, and chief custodians of the Arts Council.
The Arts Council has nothing to show in the development, sustenance, and growth of the Creative Industry Sector. Except for printing banners, flyers, and buying furniture, nothing has been done.
It thus came as a shock to us for the newly appointed CEO, who has almost 3 months in office, to be suspended without explanation to us. We deserve an explanation and we demand such an explanation which we are, without reservations, entitled to. We refuse for the Arts Council to operate in secrecy. We demand openness, transparency, and truth. We can’t begin a journey on the wrong footing. That will simply mean we have the wrong leadership at the helm. That will mean the Board is incapacitated.
The Board must with immediate effect let the Creative Industry sector and indeed Batswana as a whole know why the CEO has been placed on suspension. (Abridged Press Release)
