AS I SEE IT

The idea of forming AP (Alliance for Progressives) was not bad at all. I supported that idea and still believe in it. AP was formed to bring sanity and dignity in politics. It was a platform for solutions to our problems. It was meant to approach politics from the true side of things and neutralize the trivialities and rhetoric that we had.

AP lost it by allowing individuals who are failing to control their emotions to influence or to take decisions for the party based on their personal problems. They made wrong decisions in trying to revenge and when what they thought would happen failed, they got frustrated and desperate and made more mistakes through emotional decisions.

1) A wise plan was for AP to apply to join UDC (Umbrella for Democratic Change) before the 2019 elections. But some individuals were too bitter to accept that they had failed themselves at BMD and wished UDC could have done what was impossible. They thought by not joining UDC they were fixing Boko and UDC.

2) There was no need for AP to field in over 40 constituencies. AP could have fielded in only constituencies they were incumbent and those that had remained with BMD (Botswana Movement for Democracy). That would have forced UDC to work with them outside UDC. They could have successfully defended many of their constituencies. But some personal vendettas forced AP to try everything to spite UDC but in return destroying themselves.

3) AP made a very wise decision of working with UDC. Unfortunately the decision was only pressure from some ordinary members. That's why it didn’t materialise.

4) Then with emotions and motive for revenge, AP found itself used in a coalition formation whose only objective was to discredit Boko and praise Saleshando. They failed to check the blind spot to see that they were actually jumping from the pan into the fire. In fact, I personally warned them. They are now a bystanders in politics. Their existence as a party is in question because they don't know where they stand as a result of emotion-based decisions. But you see, AP is one small brand people loved. It could have grown to become a great thing. The UDC brand is where it is because of AP brains, intelligence and hard work.

They are currently at crossroads. It's either they swallow their egos and pride then take a wise and progressive decision by joining UDC where they will be welcomed and respected. Or they go on with a personal agenda pretending that all is well with the result of them being swallowed and despairing in politics for good. No matter what, in those 5 constituencies BCP (Botswana Congress arty) has given them, BCP are going to traffic out their members and those that remain will vote for BDP or even UDC to make sure that AP lose.

Even Winter won't win elections under BCP/AP/BLP coalition. AP currently needs a Secretary General, a Vice Secretary General a Publicity Secretary and a Strategist. They are not visible and they are not defending the Party. They bank on Rramasedi-a-poloka
