There’s a cautious-optimism in the air that the Zionist project (the state of Israel) has reached its dead-end!
And the vigil for the ‘Fallen Empire’ is about to begin, as martyrs across North Africa (so-called Middle East) brace themselves for an epic moment.
It was foretold in time immemorial. He promised to make a path in the wilderness, and to sprout streams in the desert.
The age-old myth about a land without people predestined or pre-ordained by God for a people without land, has finally been debunked for the LIE it is!
The people of Palestine deserve better. They have been divided, battered raped, taunted, hauled on hot coals, bashed, emasculated, killed, murdered and worst of all, subjected to a televised genocide!
What an atrocious deed in the 21st Century, supposedly a century of enlightenment when man should know better!
But sadly, man is still the old brute beast he was millennia ago! I say this because, who among us cared? What did we do, when Israel swore openly to raze Gaza down, and when that monstrous regime eventually rolled out its genocidal plan for all and sundry to behold?
We may take undeserved comfort in the deal for a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas but, before we all blow our own trumpets let’s remember the credit belongs to Quarter the US and Egypt, who brokered the deal.
But, will it stand, that’s the question? It’s a temporary reprieve, Ahmed Shinab-Eldin, a media personality and digital influencer, reckons. He made such a powerful intro in the opening for his presentation at this past weekend’s Tawasol 4 summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
Held under the theme, ‘Palestine Narratives: A New Era’, this fourth summit continues the tradition of expressing solidarity with the plight of the people of Palestine! It’s not just solidarity in words, but also in deeds. Experts, academics, scholars, journalists and opinion leaders gather here to discuss and make resolutions on ways to better tell the Palestinian story to a global audience.
But them everything happens within a context, and that’s why I have chosen to reproduce Ahmed’s powerful speech made at the Greenpark Hotel’s conference centre on Sunday 19th January 2025.
“In the face of relentless disinformation, censorship and suppression – the question emerges, how can we reclaim and amplify the truth, how can we ensure that the voice of those enduring oppression and violence are not only heard but resonate across the globe?
Let’s start with addressing an uncomfortable truth: The ceasefire deal that we woke up to today, that leaves the illegal blockade and the occupation of Palestine intact, we know it’s going to be a temporary measure.
Without addressing the root cause of the violence, of the collective violence of the Palestinian people, not only is peace impossible, but the circle of violence will continue.
Is anyone surprised that this morning, regardless of the technicalities, Israel continued to not only attack, but kill Palestinians so minutes after the ceasefire was to go into effect a quadcopter killed people just east of Gaza city at 3 0’clock? I am not surprised. But this is a reminder that we shouldn’t believe that a rogue state with impunity ever, nor should we believe a mainstream or western media which we have been witnessing has been very proudly manufacturing consent for genocide for 16 months!
Another question. Will the mainstream media talk about the children that the Israeli regime is holding as prisoners that are meant to be released as part of this hostage deal?
Will they talk about those children? Children who have been held without charge or trial, children who have been subject to inhumane treatment, to torture and yes to sexual assault?
As we all know in this room, genocide doesn’t just happen. The media, as well as social media platforms, is directly responsible for creating conditions in which genocide is not only enacted and accepted, but defended, not just by the political establishment, but by the media establishment, by technology platforms that suppress and silence anyone who dares use whether the phrase ‘From the River to the Sea’ or simply, the ‘Palestinian’ as we all know, which Murdoch apologised for somehow incorrectly translating the word ‘Palestinian’ to the word ‘Terrorism’ in their platform.
In the last week alone, Israel killed four more journalists. That brings the total number of journalists killed since the war began to over 205. Entire families as we all know, have been wiped out.
I want to say this clearly and be on the record saying, while I wear this snugly sweater that says ‘From the river to the sea’ –Shame on All Journalists for failing to express solidarity with the journalists who have been murdered week after week for 16 months”.
Indeed, for my part I accept the blame. We have shamed the profession, especially us journalists in Botswana. For some reason we have chosen to turn a blind eye to the atrocity in Gaza that has been unfolding right before eyes, as captured by modern technological devices!
Even when a Palestinian journalist based in Gaza visited the country to recount her experience of the Israeli occupation and the unfolding genocide, we hardly have her audience? What have we turned into? We are so inward-looking. We forget that the atrocities happening elsewhere in the world may as well visit our shores one day! We are mot an island, or immune!
