Ruele ward residents in Kanye are mourning the death of village elder, Kgosi Baleseng Justice Baleseng.

He was a member of Customary Court of Appeal in Gaborone and a former host for a radio program called Thibang diphotlha that aired on RB1.

Ward residents revealed that they were on Friday awakened by deafening sound of a gunshot. They later realised that Kgosi Baleseng Justice Baleseng shot himself, after seeing two police vehicles packing in front of his residential home, shortly after the gunshot sound.

According to residents, the deceased allegedly had a misunderstanding with his 53-year-old wife.

Commenting on the suicide incident, deceased neighbour and best friend, 71 year-old Boikanyo Rakeletseng said he is still in shock, as he never thought his friend would kill himself.

Rakeletseng said he was with the deceased on Thursday, the day before he killed himself but he never showed any signs of sadness. "I still cannot believe he is gone! he adds.

A youthful ward resident, 36 year-old Elias Mails said he is disappointed by the passing of the ward elder. "We perceived him as our father in the yard and often relied on him for guidance," he said.

Asked on what could have transpired, Sejelo Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mogomotsi Matlapeng said the incident is a fresh matter and investigations are still ongoing.
