Vice President and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Chairman Slumber Tsogwane has called for the spirit of volunteerism and loyalty within the party.

He said it is time for democrats to reflect and remember why they joined the party. Speaking at the BDP Youth Policy Forum in Serowe, Tsogwane said they should come out of the forum better than when they first convened, alive to the status-quo and positioning themselves as the only party worthy of Batswana’s vote.

He challenged the youth to take the opportunity to prove both to themselves and the nation at large that they are more than ready to receive the baton and have the leadership mantle passed to them.

According to Tsogwane, they are advancing towards 2024 with a common goal of presenting to Batswana a united and proud political organisation. He encouraged all democrats to find common ground and unite in the name of their party.

“I am delighted to be here, surrounded by youthful democrats who have seen it important to gather and collect thoughts and address issues directly affecting the modern day monana. As we convene here to provide audience to ideas and recommendations as will be presented and submitted by the youth, I urge every democrat to self-reflect and ask themselves what part they will play in the BDP retaining power in the 2024 general elections,” Tsogwane said.

He said the youth, with a common voice are leading this charge and are to put before the party possible solutions to problems faced by contemporary society.

He stated that this is the responsibility of every card carrying democrat from across all corners of Botswana. "We are the ambassadors of our party, and it is only attractive to the apolitical voter through our overall conduct," he added.

The party chairman applauded and commended the BDP Youth Wing for finding it necessary to host the forum especially at a critical time before the general elections. He told the forum that the 2022 State of the Nation Address presented by President Mokgweetsi Masisi carries with it hope for the nation as it recovers from the aftermath of Covid-19.

“As the ruling party, we are mandated with the task of overseeing the welfare of the nation, as such, the 2022 SONA provides interventions that seek to uplift the lives of the ordinary Motswana and move Botswana’s economic standing to a high-Income status.

“We are eager to hear from you, ideas, possible solutions and recommendations on how the party can advise and influence the government, in addressing youth unemployment, youth in leadership, youth and the creative industry, as well as youth in business and youth skills development," Tsogwane said.
