UNLUCKY 'SNIPER'

Major Tumisang Sniper Sefularo, who died this past weekend in Molepolole has had a very sorry life in the last few years of his life.

Sniper, as he was affectionately known, was at the time of his death a soldier based at ThebePhatshwa Air Base. He died after allegedly being beaten to a pulp by 30-year-old Oankgopola Sebela near Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole.

Sebela was in court on Tuesday facing a murder charge and was remanded in custody until the 13th January 2024.

According to Molepolole police station commander Superintendent Jacob Molapong, Sniper was killed after two men driving a Madza Demio vehicle hit Sniper in his brother’s Mercedes Benz from the back.

The men in the Madza Demio then sped off without saying anything to Sniper and his brother. Aggrieved, the brothers chased after the Madza Demio and eventually caught up with it at Scottish Hospital.

Sniper got off the car and headed towards the two men to confront them. Sebela then allegedly came out of the Demio and began fighting Sniper. The two wrestled for some time trading blows. When Sniper’s brother got off the car to help him, Sebela ran off to their car and they sped off again, having injured Sniper on the head.

The brother rushed Sniper to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Sniper is ex-husband to former Botswana Television star news reader Gloria Kgosi. The duo got married in 2018 and divorced a year later, much to the devastation of the couple’s friends and well-wishers.

The union was meant to be a healing step for Sniper who tragically lost his 9-year-old son Boago, in 2017. According to the deceased’s friends, Boago died after being hit by a speeding car.

Sniper allegedly never recovered from losing his child and it was evident through his social media accounts that the death of his son haunted him. Boago died on the 16th of June - the Day of the African Child.

But for Sniper, whenever people commemorate this day, he would look the other way. He always shared how he hated the month of June, because it brought him so much pain.

It is said that at the time of his death, Sniper was returning from his grandmother's funeral in Lotlhakane East and was supposed to return to Maun where he was stationed temporarily on a work trip.
