Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital has unveiled its play centre thereby continuing to be a shining example of what a leading medical care institution in Botswana should look like.

The play centre is an area where ill children can play, colour and be reminded of the happier things of life, whilst waiting to get their much-needed medical attention.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony, First National Bank Botswana Chief Executive Officer, Steven Bogatsu elatedly revealed that the play area is named Joni Joni, after the former Botswana statesman Sir Keitumile Joni Masire.

“Masire was renowned for his tireless efforts to promote peace and stability throughout the world, particularly in Africa.” Bogatsu said that the FNB Foundation takes great pride in naming the facility after an inspirational figure as a lasting tribute.

Bogatsu said that the play centre embodies hope, healing and happiness. He said FNBB recognises that healing pediatric patients is challenging but affirmed that one's environment can aid in the healing process.

Bogatsu also thanked the staff of the hospital for their continued sacrifices in ensuring that Batswana get the best medical attention.

The Minister of Health Dr Edwin Dikoloti indicated that this project was borne out of government’s desire to set up an area that will ease and enhance the treatment of children.

Dikoloti said that the partnership between the hospital and FNBB is proof of the good that can be done by partnerships.

“Our aim is not to only treat the physical ailments of children but to also nurture their emotional wellbeing to ensure that they emerge from their healthcare experiences with brighter smiles and stronger spirits,” he said.

Dikoloti revealed that the hospital and FNBB have exciting plans to expand the play area in the foreseeable future.

This project will serve as a beacon of hope and healing for countless children and their families.
