A man suspected to be a thief was caught red-handed as her threw clothes out of the window of a home owner at Botshabelo ward in Charles Hill village this past Monday.

The man was caught by the house owner around noon when she came to check progress on houses that are still under construction in the same yard.

The home owner was met by an unfamiliar car parked near her home and next to it was her home theatre system and speakers.

When she went further inside the yard, she saw clothes being thrown out of the window from one of her completed houses which she uses to store building materials.

The woman confronted the man, asking him who he was and what he wanted in her house. Realising that he was caught, the man dropped everything and ran out, jumped inside his car and sped off.

The shocked house owner called the police who chased after the man leading to his arrest an hour later.

“I can confirm that that the matter was reported to us, we have arrested the suspect and he will be arraigned before court this week. We are still investigating to check if he has no connection in other theft common and house breaking incidents that occurred in the past,” Charles Hill station commander, Lefa Kareng said.

Kareng said that theft common was a worrying crime in his policing area and what was disturbing was that some of the crimes are being committed by minors. Of the 10 cases they recorded in 2023, five of them implicated minors.

“On the early hours of this past Saturday, two cars were broken into at night and a thief stole eye glasses and flash drives. It appears they were looking for money inside the cars but escaped when the police arrived.”

The car owners had after realising that thieves were breaking into their cars decided to call the police from inside their house without alerting the intruders, Kareng explained.
