Married man starves as wife says marriage is not all about sex

With February being the month of love, a frustrated and deserted wife, Gaolatlhe Bosilo has dragged her husband, Kgotla Bosilo (46), to court this Monday, demanding spousal support, after he left their matrimonial home.

The case was presided over by Principal Magistrate Reuben Sebetlela at the Kanye Magistrate Court, where it was revealed that the couple was returning for the second time.

Gaolatlhe told the magistrate that since their marriage in 2024, her husband had left her mother’s home, which they both consider their residence. She was accompanied by her elderly mother, who appeared to fully support her daughter's claims.

She told the magistrate that although she often works for the government’s poverty eradication initiative, Ipelegeng, she still requires spousal support from her husband.

Gaolatlhe revealed that she got married last year, and her husband found her with three children. They do not have any children together. She disclosed in court that she will never have sex with her husband because he refuses to use a condom.

Gaolatlhe further explained that she has health conditions that prevent her from becoming pregnant, and she fears for her life. She said she wanted a monthly spousal support of P500.

In his defense, the husband stated that he had no money and that his wife only seeks financial support from him, while denying him sex throughout their marriage, citing health conditions.

The magistrate said that the wife is entitled to support regardless of the husband's financial situation. However, the couple was reminded that marriage is a voluntary commitment, and no one is forced into it.

The husband told the court that he would rather divorce, but the magistrate sternly warned that this was not the issue being addressed in the case, stating that the matter at hand was unrelated to his request.

However, the magistrate stated that according to common law, spouses are obligated to support each other and advised the wife to also support her husband, as she is the one employed.

The wife explained that Ipelegeng is a temporary job and she has no money. Ultimately, the matter was dismissed, as both parties were found to be financially unable to support each other.

In an interview with The Midweek Sun, the wife presented a certified document indicating that she has artificial heart valves, and that falling pregnant could pose serious health risks.

She insisted that her husband refuses to use a condom and would never sleep with him as he does not care for her. She believes that marriage is not solely about sex, and that a marriage can survive without it.

She also mentioned that she had long advised him to open a business, as he is a painter, but he refused.

When questioned about other birth control options, the wife left the court premises, followed by her mother, who also said that her daughter was sick and should not have sex.

In an interview with the husband, Kgotla, he claimed he had been deprived of sex throughout the marriage.

"Throughout the entire marriage, she wants money, yet refuses to have sex with me!" he said.

When asked about his refusal to use a condom, Kgotla stated that since he is married, he believes he should not need to use one.
