The news about the termination of contract for the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) brand ambassador was met with celebrations during the festive season but it turned out to be a hoax.

During the celebratory period a well-known social media anti- corruption activist Sethomo Tshwanelang wrote that CEDA's brand ambassador Sonny Serite's contract was terminated with immediate effect.

He did not elaborate why Serite was fired. The news was received with lots of excitement by his many followers but it has since emerged that Serite is still contracted by CEDA.

Reached for comment during the festive holidays Serite said, "My CEDA will be best placed to comment but all I can say is, it’s festive and Santa Claus sent them a fairy-tale”.

For his part Serite's attorney Kgosietsile Ngakaagae said he could safely confirm that Serite's contract with CEDA has not been terminated.

"Any information to the contrary is false and misleading. It is just part of a sustained campaign of falsehoods against our client meant to injure his reputation and to ruin his career.

“Our client takes comfort in the knowledge that government has instituted an enquiry into the matter and in time he shall be publicly vindicated.

“He takes further comfort in that in time those who have lied so extensively and so maliciously lied against him will have their day in court and will answer for the damage they have caused.

“Should there be such a change regarding our client’s contract the public shall be informed," Ngakaagae said.

CEDA Head of Corporate Affairs, Disang Nage confirmed that Serite’s contract has not been terminated.

Serite has launched a P7 million lawsuit against Tshwanelang for defamation. Tshwanelang, who once told the media that he is unfazed by the many lawsuits that are beginning to pile on him, is also being sued by CEDA Chief Executive Officer Thabo Thamane and former Minister of Sports, Tumiso Rakgare.

Gaborone High Court Judge Michael Leburu in December last year granted CEDA an interim interdict against Sethomo Tshwanelang from posting ‘false, malicious and unfounded remarks’ about the organisation.

In November last year, Tshwanelang accused CEDA and some of its employees among them the Chief Executive Officer Thabo Thamane on social media of alleged corrupt practices.

Tshwanelang has called for the removal of Thamane and other officials especially the Board Members.

Through Mbekwe Legal Practice, CEDA then dragged Tshwanelang before the High to interdict him from continuing to post the alleged corruption documents.
