President of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Duma Boko launched the Molepolole North Constituency candidate Arafat Khan in a jam-packed rally this past weekend in Molepolole.

He said that the party intends to bring in meaningful change that will ensure that the lives of Batswana are uplifted, reiterating that when voted into power, the UDC will ensure that elderly people receive P1800 per month with P4000 being the minimum wage. Under his government, he said, tertiary students will get an allowance of P2500 from the current P1900.

Boko said that parents must understand that there are no children on earth who are not intelligent and it is critical that a government that cares for them helps them unearth their talent. He also undertook to address the health crisis in Botswana where he says nurses have been turned into Doctors, and sick people often lose their lives whilst waiting for help all because of the ruling Domkrag.

“Domkrag ke poison, tswaa mo Domkrag ga e go rate, o seka wa e ithatisa ga e kitla e go rata,” Boko told residents of Molepolole, reminding them that they have no water because the ruling party doesn’t care about them. He

added the UDC was not a party of empty promises, going further to warn against leaders that can openly lie to the people and show no remorse whilst doing it.

An emotional Arafat Khan could not hide his tears when the crowd welcomed him before he gracefully accepted the honour of running for Member of Parliament on behalf of the UDC. In his acceptance speech, Khan stated that for over 58 years, Molepolole has struggled under the burden of unemployment, lack of basic services, declining healthcare, and inadequate infrastructure, enduring the failures of successive BDP governments.

"Today, the people of Molepolole North stand at a pivotal moment in their destiny, determined to bring about change. Honouring the sacrifices of past leaders, the call is now for a progressive government, rooted in Decent Lives and Inclusive Growth, to address the challenges faced by the constituency and create a future built on hope, justice, and opportunity for all," he said.

Khan expressed his commitment to transforming the constituency by prioritising infrastructure, water access, healthcare, education, and investment opportunities. Some of the things that they will work towards are roads improvement, solar street lights installation, and business attraction to create sustainable jobs, especially for the youth.

“Through my previous role as a Councillor and a committed community leader, I have initiated numerous impactful projects. These include support for schools, installation of streetlights, social protection schemes, and youth development programmes,” Khan said.

He added that UDC is ready to restore hope, resist corruption, and work towards a progressive government under the leadership of Boko, focusing on inclusive growth and decent lives for all in Molepolole North.
