Saleshando bashes Masisi’s leadership

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader, Dumelang Saleshando took a hard stance against President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s administration, accusing him of fostering corruption within the country.At the launch of parliamentary candidate for Gaborone Central, Mpho Pheko on Saturday, Saleshando bashed President Masisi over the state of the country under the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).“We are now living in difficult times. The president has introduced a new initiative called corruption, which he lives by with his family,” Saleshando declared in a statement aimed at exposing what he termed a systematic culture of dishonesty under Masisi’s leadership.Pheko, BCP's candidate for Gaborone Central, echoed similar sentiments in her speech, emphasising the failure of the president to act in the best interests of Batswana.“Tautona Masisi o le ikaeditse gore fa a re oa le tsamaela wa bo a ba itsamaela. Bill ya Constitution fa e sa le ruta se Batswana, ke mathata,” Pheko said, emphasizing that it should now be evident to Batswana that whenever the president says he is traveling to improve their lives, he actually means his own life. The constitutional amendment bill, she added, should be another matter showing that the president seeks to pile benefits on himself.Adding her voice to the discourse, Unity Dow, BCP’s parliamentary candidate for Kgatleng West, called on the nation to vote for the BCP in the upcoming elections to end the struggles of poverty, unemployment, and poor living conditions."It is only through making the right vote that we can restore the country's economy and put honest leaders in positions of power," Dow stated.The BCP launched Pheko, who will contest the Gaborone Central Constituency for the second time. In the 2019 general elections, Pheko lost to Tumisang Healy of the BDP.This time around, she will be facing Bontsi Gaborone, who recently won the BDP primary elections, as well as Phenyo Butale from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).The race for Gaborone Central is expected to be highly competitive, with each candidate presenting their vision for the constituency’s future.
