The president of Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) Biggie Butale has called upon the Serowe west voters to deny the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) the vote on Saturday and instead, vote for BPF candidate, Kedikilwe.

“They must not get more than twenty (20) votes. Let us teach them a lesson,” said Butale whose party is a member of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) collective.

He appealed to the voters to ensure the number of votes for the BDP in the by-election, does not exceed those of the spoilt votes.

“The BDP has fielded Moemedi Dijeng. You should use this by-election to demonstrate to all and sundry that you intend to achieve regime change come 2024. A win for the BDP will give them courage and strength ahead of the 2024 general elections,” Butale said.

According to the vice president of the Alliance for Progressives (AP), Wynter Mmolotsi, whose party is also part of the UDC, the ruling BDP should be removed from power as soon as possible.

“We need a new Botswana where the government has the time to run the country. Instead of running the country, the ruling BDP is fighting the Khama family in South Africa,” Mmolotsi said, noting that had the Botswana parliament been virtual, there would have been no need to remove Tshekedi Khama from parliament.

“The BDP is a government full of hatred. The party needs to accept that people do not forsake their Chiefs and Khama is the chief of Bangwato,” noted the MP for Francistown South.

According to Mmolotsi, the ruling party needs to be removed from power before it becomes too late. Instead of running the country, the BDP government has shifted all its attention on an unarmed Khama whom they perceive as

their enemy.

As far as he is concerned, Botswana is no more and the need to build the New Botswana is beckoning. According to Mmolotsi, the Masisi-led government has neglected the country with its focus now on fighting Khama.

For his part, the vice president of the BPF, Reggie Reatile told his audience at the Palamaokuwe rally that nobody can stop change, giving the examples of the triumphs recorded by the liberation movements in Africa during the liberation struggle.

“The winds of change are unstoppable,” said Reatile who accused President Mokgweetsi Masisi and his government of fighting the Khama family who have escaped to South Africa citing insecurity for them this country.

“This must not surprise you because Jesus was sold by his own people, the Jews. Seretse Khama’s children are being sold by the people of Serowe,” posited the party vice president.

For her part, BPF activist, Catherine Sepora called upon the Serowe voters to be outraged by the fact that the person they preferred and voted in 2019, Tshekedi Khama, was forced to flee the country by the ruling BDP.

“Had he not been forced to leave he would be in the constituency serving you. Tshekedi Khama did not abandon you. He had to flee. The BPF will do everything possible to retain the constituency.

“The time for change is now. When you go to the election on Saturday, think about the high corruption levels, unemployment, think about your Kgotla which has been closed, among other things. Your vote in the by-election will determine how the opposition performs in the 2024 general elections,” Sepora said.

Meanwhile, in an audio clip played at the rally, Tshekedi expressed the belief that the BDP has got nowhere to run. “If they do not cheat like they did in 2019, they have no chance of winning,” declared Khama whose relocation to South Africa allegedly over safety issues, has led to Serowe west going for a by-election this weekend.

He appealed to the voters to send Kedikilwe to parliament as his replacement. For his part, Kedikilwe promised to bag the constituency for the BPF and the UDC.
