Botswana Democratic Change (BDP) and the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) continue to throw jabs at each other with the recent spat coming from President Mokgweetsi Masisi who mocked the party for having no concrete manifesto.
BDP President, Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged people to vote for his party and not parties that do not have a manifesto, and whose sole mandate is being against him.
Speaking to elders of the BDP in Mogoditshane over the holidays, Masisi said that there is a party whose manifesto is ‘remove Masisi’. He said in a comical manner that they never talk about what they will do but only about how Botswana used to be peaceful before Masisi. Masisi questioned the intelligence of the concerned party and its logic. He said that this party needs prayers and the attention of both modern and traditional doctors.
He further said "members of this party" allege that they are fixing things, while he, (Masisi) is the only one who can answer questions adequately. Masisi reminded the residents of Mogoditshane that they recently launched the Mogoditshane road that will end at the T-junction of Sengaparile. He explained that this is a state of the art road.
He said that such developments are brought about to improve the lives of residents of Mogoditshane who can run businesses from their homes. He said that such developments used to be a myth in the nation.
In a recent press conference, Patron of the BPF, former President Ian Khama said that Botswana used to be a peaceful nation where no one used to fear calling anyone and no one feared the Directorate of Intelligence and
Security (DIS). He said that since Masisi ascended to the Presidency things have gone from bad to worse.
BPF Chairman, Carter Morupisi said that they are launching their manifesto and that some of the things in their manifesto are issues of how the nation will deal with poverty and inequality, and also how the nation will provide better social safety nets. He promised a people-centred review of the Constitution under the BPF.
Morupisi said that the BPF will ensure that people participate in the review of the national Constitution and that their demands are heard. Among others, he said their review will also consider changes to the Electoral Act and the
role of Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
“We will do an extensive financial review and forensic audit,” Morupisi said, adding that this will ensure that when they take over the government they will know where the nation is and how national projects will be financed.
He explained that there is a problem with service delivery in Botswana and they will put systems in place to ensure that this changes.
The BPF manifesto will be launched in Serowe this coming Saturday.
